Landscape Collage-Rush Creek Elementary, MN

An all new session of KidzArt Classes starte today at Rush Creek Elementary School in Maple Grove, MN.  This session, Mixed Media Mania!, is all about different materials.  Today students created a landscape using different paper, gemstones, and glitter paint! 

First we talked about what a collage was (collage: is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole).  Which students could relate to having done before with pictures or a group project. 

Then we talked about different landscapes and what kind of landscape they wanted to create in their collage.  A few students chose to create a nice warm landscape (a nice thought in the middle of winter here in Minnesota!).

Learn a simple "Suminagashi" technique---floating inks on the surface of water to create beautiful patterns. Create a bookworm out of clay and decorate a pen that looks like a Wizards' wand. Work with fabric, paint, metal, foam and other fun materials to make art you are excited about! No previous experience necessary-we guide you in a relaxed supportive atmosphere. We use all high quality materials. Zoofari (Ages 4-6): Grab your jungle hats, we're going on a safari! check out all kinds of cool creatures and the places they live. Learn to draw some of your favorite animals. Try some bold patterns, colors and crazy pattern animals. This camp is packed with drawing, painting, and sculpture projects. Princesses and Paint (Ages 4-6, Girls only camp!): Mirror, mirror on the wall… this little princess will paint her own mirror! Drawing Macaw Birds

Today was the start of an all new session of KidzArt classes at The Studio at Rush Creek in Maple Grove, MN.  Today students learned how to draw Macaw Birds and used Prismacolor markers and Art Stix to color their drawings.

KidzArt is a drawing based program that teaches the fundamentals and drawing techniques that can help them decode and draw more complicated pictures.

For the birds we started with the eye and the "D" shape that surrounds the eye then went on to the beak and rest of the body.  After students were done drawing their birds they had the chance to add any other details or a background.  It is always wonderful to see how even though we are all drawing from the same example how different each picture turns out!

Snowy Cabin

Snowy Cabin in the Woods-KidzArt at Lesson at Hanover Elementary

With 12-14" inches of snow falling this past weekend in Minnesota, we had the perfect picture for our students to draw this week at Hanover Elementary. 

 Here is the example the students learned to draw from and the Keywords we looked at. Students learned how to draw snow using countor lines and then to just add a little bit of shading to give it a more realistic look.  But most of the snow was left white and then at the end students added details with glitter paint and metallic markers.

Students had great ideas for ways to make their picture unqiue and their own.  Some students changed colors, added animals, or added a lake (something that we see all over in the land of 10,000 lakes).  At KidzArt we encourage students to brainstorm ways to make their picture different as they are the artist.  But if they want to copy the example that is ok too!

Winter Wonderland Workshops

The first three weeks of December are always a great time for KidzArt Minnesota!  We are excited about the start of our holiday/winter workshops throughout schools in the NW Metro area.  Today at St. Michael Catholic School in St. Michael, MN we drew a Gingerbread house!  This is a favorite picture among KidzArt staff to draw with students.  There are so many ways for students to make this drawing their own with new designs, patterns, and different color choices. 

We looked at the example picture for inspiration.  Then students followed along as the instructor showed them how to complete the drawing.

Look at how wonderfully different each drawing is even though everyone started out looking at the same drawing.
